It’s official: Xander’s mom Fiona is finally arriving in Salem and, we have a feeling, blowing everything up on Days of Our Lives! We’ve been wondering for months now who would be playing her and when she’d show up, with all recent signs pointing to a dramatic double wedding entrance.
More: Does Salem have a new serial killer?
And it looks like those signs are right as TV Guide magazine reports that Serena Scott Thomas will be airing as Fiona on Friday, July 19, just as Xander and Sarah and Alex and Theresa’s double wedding kicks off! Back when we first got the casting news that Scott Thomas would be joining the sudser, folks speculated that she’d play everyone from Konstantin’s wife (thanks to Xander, he’s gone now) to Fiona Cook.
The two have been estranged for years, with Xander recently opening up about her alcoholism. In fact, he has such a dim view of her, that we’ve got a feeling the wedding appearance is going to just about floor him! Back when Soaps.com spoke with Paul Telfer, he noted that Xander “knows that his mum’s such a terrible, awful person, such a wretched flake that she won’t show up anyway.”
But show up she does, and apparently she wants to do right by her son for once!
“Fiona comes with her own flair,” Scott Thomas tells TV Guide, “large and in charge, with a twinkle in her eye.” But what’s more is that, “She wants to make amends with her son.”
The best we can think for her to make amends? Expose Theresa’s lie that Alex is Victor’s son instead of Xander. Then again, keeping her son’s true parentage a secret for his whole life isn’t likely to win her brownie points with him. In fact, we’d venture that even when the truth does come out, things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better.
As for Scott Thomas, she has nothing but amazing things to say about her co-stars, telling TV Guide, “I loved Paul from the moment I saw him. I saw him in the corridor and he held out his arms and he went, ‘Mum!’ He was so sweet, and he took me to lunch.”
On top of that, Linsey Godfrey, “is just a doll. And Suzanne [Rogers, Maggie], I adore. I want to be like her when I grow up. She has this wonderful sort of regal presence, but she’s very humble.” In fact, she adds, “I’ve never been so happy on a set.”
And that’s good, because we’re pretty sure Days of Our Lives put her through her paces for this upcoming arc. As Telfer previewed to Soaps.com, “The whole mummy storyline is amazing. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done on the show.”
We can’t wait!
