Emme Rylan Confirms GH Is Recasting Lulu
When the news broke that General Hospital had sent out a casting call for a character that sounded suspiciously like Lulu Spencer, many fans hoped it was a mistake because they wanted Emme Rylan to return to the role that she left in December 2020.
Unfortunately, Rylan shared a screenshot of Soaps In Depth’s Instagram post about our story regarding the potential recast and confirmed the sad news in her Instagram Stories. “Yes, it is true,” she wrote. “GH has decided to recast Lulu.”
Following her roles as Guiding Light’s Lizzie Spaulding and The Young & The Restless’ Abby Newman, Rylan took over the role of Lulu on GH from Julie Marie Berman in April 2013. Although the character fell into a coma in December 2020 after being injured in an explosion, fans continued to hope that Lulu would one day wake up and that Rylan would be back playing the role.
Last August, Rylan assured fans that she was willing to come back whenever the soap came calling. “I have made it very clear to GH that I am always available to play Lulu should she ever want to wake up. It is my understanding that when they choose to wake her up, they would be calling me. That could always change. Who knows?”
Sadly, for Rylan’s loyal fan base, that proved not to be the case. “Although I am very disappointed with their choice,” the actress shared in her Instagram Story, “I am glad to finally have closure. (And thank goodness GH brought all of you fabulous people into my life! Love you guys!)”
