The double wedding of the year is kicking off in Salem on today’s Days of Our Lives. Xander and Sarah are getting their fairy tale wedding, while Alex and Theresa are riding their coattails in an attempt to foster family unity — or something. We guess it makes planning a wedding much easier when you just join onto one already happening.
And it certainly looks like a lavish affair! (If you haven’t watched today’s episode yet, check out the double wedding preview here.) But we all know it’s not going to go according to plan, anymore than the last double wedding that took place in the Horton Town Square! Hopefully, this time, though, at least one couple will make it down the aisle! (Fingers crossed it’s Xander and Sarah. Sorry, Theresa.)
Now, we think we know what’s coming. Serena Scott Thomas debuts today as Xander’s mom. So Fiona’s going to blow in at the end of Friday’s episode and interrupt the wedding, telling everyone that Alex is a fraud and Xander is really Victor’s son. She’ll devastate Alex, expose Theresa and everything will shake out as it was supposed to all those months ago when Victor died.
But don’t expect it to be quite so cut and dry. When Soaps.com spoke with Paul Telfer and Linsey Godfrey, they warned us to expect more than a few shakeups. As Telfer teased, “It’s a Salem wedding, so obviously there’s a big disaster that happens at it.” Actually, Godfrey added, “It’s a twist and a disaster.”
“And kind of a double twist,” Telfer piled on. “And a double disaster!”

Well, OK, then! If we think Fiona’s arrival is one twist and Theresa’s world crumbling one disaster, what in the world can be left? Because everything that’s to come with Xander has got to be good, right? Actually, we’ll strike that, especially since Xander doesn’t exactly get along with his mom.
Serena Scott Thomas, though, is another matter entirely. Telfer couldn’t help but gush over her, saying she “was just absolutely phenomenal and couldn’t have come in with a better attitude, or more supportive, but also curious and excited. She’s just so thrilled to be a part of what we were doing and to have such a major storyline for herself to play.
There was, Godfrey explained, “a major, immediate bond. Us and Suzanne [Rogers, Maggie] and [Serena Scott Thomas] bonded immediately. Just so much. We were so relieved.”
But the wedding and Fiona are just the start — at least as far as Xander and Sarah are concerned.
“The mommy storyline kicks off a huge, huge, huge arc for both of our characters,” Godfrey explained. “And it was highly emotional, and it was really taxing and daunting, and we were both so, so grateful for that opportunity.”
So whatever fireworks, twists and disasters happen at this double wedding, rest assured, they’re only the beginning. Once Fiona shows up, we’re in for a wild, emotional ride. And we can’t wait.
