Shocking Twist – Jason Was John Cates’ Target All Along
General Hospital spoilers tease that FBI Agent John Cates (Adam Harrington) supposedly came to town to bring down the Pikeman Group.
As viewers know, Cates had a recording of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) admitting that she was taking over the Corinthos crime empire during the time Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) was believed dead.
Cates threatened to prosecute Carly if Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) didn’t work undercover as an FBI informant.

Jason agreed to Cates’ dead to keep Carly out of prison but it meant letting his friends and family believe he was dead. Cates had Jason under his thumb for almost three years. But Jason succeeded in his mission once Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) was revealed as the head of Pikeman.
Suddenly, Cates switched gears and threated to send Jason out of town on another undercover assignment or he would make good on his threats against Carly. But Carly forced Cates hand and made him arrest her instead.

But Cates wasn’t quite through with Jason. He tried to make yet another deal with Jason, this time the target is Sonny. Cates let Jason know that if he helped him put Sonny is prison, then the charges against Carly would go away.
Cates can’t seem to let Jason go so it may very well be that Carly and Sonny are just ends to a means and Cates has been seeking revenge against Jason himself all this time.
While it’s certainly true that Cates would love to see Sonny’s go to prison, Jason is the one who has suffered the most because of Cates.

If Jason has been the object of Cates’ need for revenge all this time, the reasons may go back decades. Jason and Cates once vied for the affection of Karen Wexler (Cari Shayne). Karen and Jagger eventually married and left down.
Jagger cheated on Karen and she left him and returned to Port Charles, where she later died in a terrible accident. But Cates may know a secret that Jason has no idea about.
Perhaps Karen secretly gave birth to Jason’s son, and that child turned out to be Dex Heller (Evan Hofer). And that’s why Cates has hated Jason all these years.
